Cisco to acquire Tandberg

01-Oct-2009 Today, Cisco announced it's intent to acquire fellow telepresence provider Tandberg for $3 Bn USD.  This cements Cisco's leadership position in the global teleprsence market by increasing the range of their offering from the elegant high end to the capable low end.

“Our market is the entire collaboration market, and video is at the heart of that,” Chambers, 60, said from Norway. “Our products have almost zero overlap from a revenue perspective.” The collaboration market is a $34 billion industry, he said. Cisco has a “very small” part of the market, he said on a conference call today.   In an earlier announcement in August, Cisco stated that TelePresence sales rose 97% from the privious year.  No revenue details have been provided.

The economy and its forcing companies to streamline their business travel have helped the video conferencing and webinar industries.  At the same time the vendors in these markets continue to improve the enduser experience through enhance video quality and interactive features.
